Chunky Skin-On Crockpot Applesauce

Rustic, chunky crockpot applesauce made with apple skins on, warm cinnamon, and maple syrup.

Ingredients

Main ingredients:

  • 8 medium honeycrisp/gala apples

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 1/4 cup maple syrup, amber

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon, Ceylon

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste

  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

  • Pinch of salt

Optional add-ins:

  • 1 whole cinnamon stick, remove after cooking

  • 1 tablespoon butter or vegan butter, stir in at the end for extra richness

Instructions

Prep:

1 Wash apples thoroughly since the skins will stay on.
2 Core apples and cut into medium-sized chunks. Larger chunks will yield a chunkier final applesauce.

Mix:

1 Add apples to the crockpot along with lemon juice, water, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and maple syrup.

Cook:

1 Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours, or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours, until apples are soft.
2 Mash with a potato masher for chunky applesauce, or use an immersion blender for a smoother texture.
3 Taste and adjust sweetness or cinnamon as desired.
4 Let cool before storing. Refrigerate for 5 to 7 days or freeze in portions.
